Hi and welcome I too bought an rd500 in boxes, good luck with the build, one thing I would say regarding engine is strip cranks right out as they can feel ok in engine its not till you get them out that you find out the bearings are knackered, its best to do it whilst its in bits rather than having to do it once your rebuild is finished! Its very satisfying once your build is done & you start it up for the first time, theyre great bikes!
cheers colin

Welcome to a fantastic forum, the RD500.....wonderful bike, it's been 23 years since some scumbag nicked mine, but hopefully sometime this summer I'm gonna get another. Post some pictures when you can, here's mine in 1991, when I was 20.

Nice one love the 500's. Are you doing it up all standard or doing anything special with it . Gonna keep it as standard as I can [ive also a heavily self customed and stretched Vmax and TDM [the TURD so they should keep me from going too crazy on the RD} my quandary at the mo is nearly all the nuts and bolts are in need of replacing now do I Make up sets in gold plate or a smokey chrome [very similar to std olive pass but shinier] or try and get original Yam replacements? your thoughts gents please. Its Stan stage three at the mo with std cans wheels etc the brake discs are brembo replacements can you still get the original vented cast discs anywhere ?

The fastners can be re-plated, not too expensive either.

The fastners can be re-plated, not too expensive either. A lot of originals missing and whats left is not great and no end of Halfords m6, do you know anyone that does the olive finish?
