The top engine case has some nasty chain damage, see picture, I have a good top case to cut the missing piece off but the question is how do I repair this one. Do I weld it on or use JB weld? Afraid welding heat may distort the case.. I have heard of people doing this repair but never seen pictures or a repair. Cheers Kostas

Welding is definitely the better option. Done by a professional they will not distort the cases.

This might be a stupid question.. Kostas

Kostas ,that would be tig welding.i have in the past mig welded a replacement side engine case spigot on my 350lc engine.it don't look pretty but its on the engine and does the job.years ago I saw a chap I used to work with make some repair panels for a landrover discovery out of ali and he welded them on with an oxy set.

I also think TIG is the right way. In reality this part does nothing but to keep the engine clean from chain crap.
So what I need is a clean solid weld that can be grounded down to make invisible. The case is getting painted so I won't go nuts about it.
If is wasn't a maching numbers bike maybe I would leave as is.
