Anyone got an easy technique for replacing handlebar grips on an LC. I thought it would be a 5 min job but an hour later and 2 blisters i still don't have one back on yet!

Drop them in boiling water first, Slide on easy and then tight when when they cool down and dry out. I do all of mine like this and no need for grip glue.

Hi, As mentioned, boiling water, then give them a good shake to get most of the water off. Iv also sat them on top of a radiator for a while, but the boiling water method is better. steven.

I use WD40. To remove ease a small screwdriver between grip and bar insert WD40 spray pipe and give a good squirt, To replace just spray the inside of the grip and on it slides, once dry it dosn`t move.

Thanks to all for tips. Consensus seems to be hairspray. Rock and roll hey! Better get down the ladies aisle at chemist then. Cheers.

A can of hairspray and a lighted cigar is also useful for ridding oneself of unwanted snakes in your bedroom. Together they make an excellent Heath Robinson flame thrower. J. Bond.

Following all the advice, my new grips are now on! thanks.
For the record, the one I had struggled with was still half on, after fighting to get old one off, then push new one on, and gave up with a blistered hand. Well after the advice, I decided to heat that one up with hair dryer (no hairspray!) and also squirt GT85 between rubber and bar, and with a little bit of effort that went on. Phew.
On the throttle side, i decided to cut the old one off rather than pull it off. Easy. Cleaned up the throttle tube with GT85. Then put the new one in a pan of boiling water for a few mins, took out, dried it, squirt GT85 inside it, then slipped it on easily. I'm sure the aforementioned prostitute would have put up more resistance! Ha ha.
Anyway, its easy when you know how. I love this forum. Thanks fellas, I'm sure I have harder tasks ahead.....

I have always used the same method as re-griping golf clubs. Use double sided tape (on ebay golf section) on your handlebar/throttle tube. You just spiral it round, take the protective layer off the tape. Get your grip, plug the hole in the end, then put a little thinners in the grip and coat the inside by shaking the grip. Next pour the thinners out of the grip over the double sided tape, remove the plug from the small hole in the grip and slide the grip on. You have around 30 secs to align your grip as the thinners evaporates. Sets in about 1 hour. Your grips will never move/slip even in very heavy rain. (imagine all the dead golfers if they did slip). Works every time. Cheers Yamark

I was very fortunate when I did mine the other week since my mate has left me an air compressor to look after. So in addition to the hair spray etc I used the compressor with a football inflator nozzle to blow the grip up and then it slips on real nice!
