Got one in Hull today after that tip off thanks. Need to have a play with it now. What cleaner fluid do you use for small bike bits? What will happen if i half submerge a carb in it then turn over and repeat?

You use the milk carton trick. Get the 2 pint plastic container cut off bottom section and fill with fluid cleaning stuff and then put in the cleaner unit filled with water. That way you can get carb in one go
Not tried it yet but that is what one of the mags said.
I bought proper cleaning stuff of eBay but not tried yet. Just used cillit bang which worked well. Thinking ok coke next...

Looks like it's nation wide, they have them in London also. I saw them yesterday and turned my nose up at them.... After quite a bit of ummmiing and ahhhing. Are they supposed to be ok? If so, I'll bob back tomorrow. Esp. If the milk bottle trick works as that was my main problem with them. Too small for a carb body...

Anyone tried the milk carton trick for carbs yet?
I've had a few smaller bike bits in mine with an ultrasonic engine cleaning fluid mixed about 15% fluid 85% water but whilst results have been ok i've not been blown away with it.
Is it worth sticking carbs in or should i take a trip to vapour cleaner?

Hi, I have the Lidl cleaner, and have used the 2 pint plastic bottle trick, and it works ! Put your carb parts in the bottom half of a milk carton, fill the carton with water/cleaning fluid, and place in the Ultrasonic cleaner which you have put some water in already. The water transfers the vibrations through to the carb parts. May take a few goes but it does work.

It cost me over £60.00 to get some carbs soda blasted and ultrasonically cleaned. I felt the Lidl cleaner was worth a punt and gets the carbs clean enough.

I just use a bit of fairy liquid and save the expensive stuff for really horrible stuff. I stuck the mrs' engagement ring in the other day and it came up a treat. big brownie points. I did loads of jewellery for the women at work which has given me a few get out of jail free cards too.

Well I thought i'd try out my £20 lidl ultrasonic cleaner and in particular the milk carton technique mentioned above. See the before and after results below on my carbs, and my chemistry set and make your own mind up! I used a proper cleaning fluid at 10% mix and a tooth brush to give light scrub. I'm quite happy as a complete novice first timer. Not sure how it compares to the more professional set ups.

Yes me too, cheapest I could find, but made in China I would think, not many good ones come up on 'that' auction site.

just be careful with the chinese ones, I bought one last year (£220) from a supposed UK based seller and it went faulty, smelt burning etc, anyway cut a long story short, no matter how much I tried to get it replaced/repaired etc, I had no joy, it turns out they ship from a UK warehouse but are actually based in China and so no 12mth warranty etc, etc, nowt, I contacted ebay to complain, never heard a thing from them, so £220 down the drain
I've now bought a £600 unit from a UK company (who manufacturers them), has a 3 year warranty and they sell to Farnells and the likes, it works so much better than the cheap Chinese thing, although I didn't realise it was a Chinese one at the time as it didn't state, but I've researched it loads since and there are many things to consider before parting with your dosh.
The lidl ones are good value if they work with the milk carton trick and for the occasional use I'd say get one of them, the results Shaun has managed to get using the proper ultrasonic cleaning solution and a toothbrush is very good and I'd say no worse than what I can produce with the £600 unit, although that does have a few other tricks up its sleeve and I can do multiple carbs at once, but then its massively more expensive !

Thanks Mutts, that was the nagging doubt I had in my head, a lot also say uk seller, until you look at the sellers details. I have now bought, what I hope, to be a bit of a bargain off fleabay, (yeah, yeah, they all say that As I said, I'd been looking for ages, and one got listed late last night, and I just happened to see it this morning. See what happens when it turns up. Sounds like the same one as yours? I'll have a look to see if they are listing any more, and give a heads up, but think it might be end of line stock, so......

if its made by a company called James then its a proper bit of kit, as I say, they aren't cheap, but the weight of it compared to the Chinese ones tells you that its got some decent components in it, especially the transformer etc

I had the aldi one a few years ago , also did the Tupperware / milk carton thing to do carbs etc , it worked well , so I bought a bigger one at an auction Love it
Fluids and chemicals thn come into it , the best I've found so far is , water , vinegar , and ecover Eco cleaner mix , dishwasher tabs do well too The best bit about bigger cleaners have heaters in them , this makes a big difference to the performance
