Abbot Hobgoblin King Goblin Whitechapel Porter Ridley's Old Bob Fullers 1845 London Pride Also being from the Sussex I have to say Harvey's Best However, if you haven't been to Belgium and tried the Trappist beers then you haven't lived. My faves are Leffe Brune and Westmalle Dubbel I remember seeing Harvey's brewery under a few feet of water with the barrels floating off down the river Ouse- have they escaped the floods this time?

I remember seeing Harvey's brewery under a few feet of water with the barrels floating off down the river Ouse- have they escaped the floods this time? I haven't seen anything on the news so assume they are ok this time - I actually live about 30 miles from Lewes so don't know for definite though. I did the Harvey's brewery a few years ago and there is a mark on the wall showing the water height during the flood (year 2000 I think), but they were up and running within a few days. Great tour to do if you ever get the chance and almost unlimited free sampling at the end

Supermaket chain ASDA is also selling at £1 a bottle, bet there is one of them near. have you tried Wal mart in the states I'm sure they own or are joined to ASDA I can't find anything on the net though.

What happened to the American free spirit then ? Let me get my head around this, you can carry a gun almost anywhere with no probs, but you get knicked if caught posting a bottle of beer I remember in California we tried to enjoy a bottle of chilled wine on Redondo beach ! you'd have thought we were mass murderers when the beach fuzz turned up, no sense of humour either as I recall, enjoyed the food though and the weather. Brown ale appears popular in the states micro breweries appear to make a fair amount, but net says drier and not sweet. I love a bottle of Mackersons stout now and then more illusive than Manns if you haven't had one, its sort of like a sweet Guiness.

Manns is now brewed by Marstons Brewery and as such is not brewed near London anymore, it is claimed the change from the southern chalky water may have affected the taste but I have drunk it for years and have never noticed any change,
I have contacted the Brewery to see if it is exported to the states as one or two beer sites claim it isn't.
Can't have a brit lad not having his favourite tipple bet a bottle would go nice with a big juicy texan steak......

pete your too cool for school, i like makersons too but my fav is manns, as to the gun laws it varies from state to state and if your going cross country caring, you need to be aware of the differing state laws in case you get stopped. me and the wife are going for our concealed carry licence in the new year, makes life easier if you get stopped as you have gone to the effort and expense of qualifying and background checks etc. and the no humour thing ,i think thats a country wide attitude, but the local sherrif dept are much more laid back.(been hunting witha few and all have stories to make you laugh, puke and piss youself. it truly is a land of extremes . but its the best "bang for your buck" as they say here in texas. cheers mark

Off Island till next week, will let you know if brewery reply when back on, if I can get out of the garage once the 2 YPVS are here !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't think it would be good idea for me to have carried a gun in the past.... I know a few (only a few mind) that have deseved a lot more "bang for a buck" mind you hand guns arn't illegal on the Island as they are in the UK, there is a range a few miles from my house, bit strange here too, quirky and beer ridden.

I remember The Norfolk in Peterorough, doubt it's still there as I'm talking the 70's when I was there, used to have Manns brown on draught, don't recall seeing it in anything other than bottles since.

Greene King, Abbot Ale takes some beating... though it beat me a few times. Guinness. Sam Smiths, Old brewery bitter. Shepheard Neame, Bishops finger. Much as I miss those great British beers, James Squires has saved me!

Another one for the "Hen" range, most drinkable.
Some other good ones are : Flying Scotsman (best on draught), Banana Beer (honestly, try it!), Robinsons Chocolate Tom, and my new fave is Robinsons Trooper.

Old peculiar is one of my favorites.
Sapporo is a good lager, was better when you could get the proper Japanese export, it's brewed in Canada now I think.
Stella as a daily session beer. I'm sure it's not good for you though.

I do homebrew using the kits and it's a great hobby if you like real ale. After you've bought the equipment ( about £50 ) it costs £25 to make 5 gallons of real ale.
Loving the golden ales at the moment.
Old golden hen is a favourite at the mo.
