Yup right way round. As a general rule seal springs face the wet side

I'm sure this seal has a double sealing lip design to the crank surface. When I stripped both of my motors down I found the seal fitted different on each motor, so none the wiser. Think it's only the Rhs seal which is the important one - will have a look through my Yam book as that's what I had to do when I built mine up. If it's running Ok , then rebuild and enjoy before the snow comes.

As all ready mentioned crank seals are a double spring so this side can be fitted ether way round its only the other side that should be fitted with the castle side facing the bearings

that is the right way round, as Norbo has stated, the crank seals have a spring on either side and are a double lip seal, however, for reference, that seal is a genuine Yamaha one and the grean/yellow line that you can see on the outer edge denotes that faces outwards (to the stator), if you look verey closely on genuine seals you will see that one of the lips on the seal has a very fine red line going round it, that is the side that goes to the inside of the crank cases.
Either way, that seal is fine, its the other side you can't afford to get wrong

Yep, the stator seal is universal, some have more of a bigger gap on one side, I fit the bigger gap to the outside, no reason other than it seems more logical Captain
If a seal has a spring on one side it normally goes to the wet side to help contain the pressure
If a seal has 'castles' then they go towards a bearing
