um, could be the windings in your stator going to earth, is it in a damp garage at all, damp weather/cold air will find any weakness in coils/windings, also, you checked your pickup, have you tested them for their resistance readings etc ?

the stator was rewound before i baught it. iv checked picup 78.6. but my meter dont cant check the rest as meter has not got setting it says to put it on. it will be damp in my garage. is there any check for cdi unit to see if it has blowing it. no point keep buying them if stator just going to blow it.

Not every rebuilder is any good at it. Could you not simply find and fit a used 4lo stator??

hi yes I have used mr Williams before he is very good quick turn around. had my 350lc stator repaired by him ,a fixing bolt came out and took the pick up coil out sent it off on the tue/had it back for the fri to fit on the sat.sent a ts 250 stator off which he checked and said was ok and thought that there was a problem with the bikes wiring and could I just cover the cost of posting. local with a ktm had stator problem he sent it off to him and he sorted it the guy was well chuffed he had thought for ages it was a carb problem.

DONT USE WEST COUNTRY WINDINGS ! . . . DONT CARE ABOUT THE ADS IN MAGS . . . I COULD PUT MY AD IN A MAG BUT IT DONT MEAN I COULD RE WIND A STATOR . . . USED TO SAY BAKED BEANS ON THE BUSES BUT THEY DIDNT SELL THEM ! HAD A STATOR WOUND BY THEM FOR A BETA TRIALS BIKE . . .FITTED IT . . . THE B%STARD WOULD NOT START . . .AFTER MUCH CHECKING OUT TURNS OUT THE STATOR WAS STILL FAULTY. CALLED THEM UP, DIDNET REALLY WANT TO KNOW ABOUT HAVING IT BACK FOR A SECOND TIME, JUST PAID ME MY MONEY BACK. OBTAINED AND FITTED A GOOD SECOND HAND UNIT, BIKE BURT INTO LIFE AND NEVER MISSED A BEAT AFTER. I WOULD ALWAYS PREFER TO USE A GOOD SECOND HAND ORIGINAL UNIT AS RECONDITIONED ARE ONLY AS GOOD AS THE GUY THAT HAS DONE THE WORK !
RANT OVER . . . .

I had a similar problem and it was the exciter coil on the out side of the fly wheel. It had corroded between the stator plate and the coil. I just unscrewed the coil, cleaned both surfaces put it back and my bike been fine ever since . Might be worth a try before sending any parts off for refurb.

The other thing I did in my infinite wisdom at a later date was that I put thread lock on the screws for the stator coils and this works like an insulator and stopped the bike sparking again. Just something else to look at.
