Ian Booms 73bhp beastie had stainless and having a good dump before a ride would sort the weight issue out LOL with a pv engine a bit like fitting v force reeds.not much bang for ya buck anyway b.o.t

would love a metmachex, but budget and all that
The pipes are the standard ones, not sure if the carbon end cans are slightly longer though, I am sure Kenny will chime in and correct me if I am wrong

More Expensive - not if you are also paying for chrome. Harder to make - Ain't my problem, I ain't the one swearing at them, sorry Kenny Don't make the same power - Back to back dyno says other wise. Looking at those make me want to get mine polished for next year as they look the dogs danglies Admittedly they will never look as shiney as chrome though but then my damp garage don't like chrome. As for the YPVS remarks I suppose you still have an old style telly instead of a flat screen I'll say it again, they do look amazing as does the bike. Can you tel I'm pished Steve

stainless doesnt resonate same as mild steel so less power ask kenny you are bound to get more power out of a pv compared to an lc motor yeah ive got an old tv bought it 3 years ago

They really suit the bike. Seeing that makes me want to get another set for my LC. apparently kids Christmas presents have to take priority though.

Mild steel vs Stainless Steel - personally I don't care, I like SS and would have had a set, but working on a tight budget and the need to keep my development work on the dyno going I had to decide on what I wanted to spend my money on. Getting them chromed a few months later only happened as I decided to sell some of my bikes/spares
The PV versus a standard 4L0 motor, well that's interesting really, lets look at the facts
Mine is a completely standard untuned none ported, standard squish, standard stator/timing engine, standard BHP is approx 42BHP, its currently kicking out 55BHP - so a gain of 13BHP or a gain of 31%
Ian Booms PV - boat load of mods and money spent on it, engine tune/tweaks etc - standard for his engine is 59BHP, its currently making 73BHP, so a gain of 14BHP, or a gain of 24%
So looking at the percentage gains I'd day the LC has won it hands down !!
If I do tbe next set of mods, which will include a small amount of engine work then I reckon I can get it to 60BHP, so a total gain of 43% - now that's pretty good I'd have to say !!

Yes that's an interesting comparison but I think most standard valves are about 48-52 bhp at thr wheel.

Your bike is doing really well standard at 55bhp - impressive. As baz says the YPVS 59 was at the crank so percentage even better. I would think your standard Lc hp at 42 is a really good one so again percentage gain is on the safe side so reckon with work you could have a good 50% increase. The cost of getting 50% more out of the Lc as you say is pipes and some motor work so £ per % gain is brilliant. Now lets compare that to getting 50% out of a YPVS. Yes I have managed it but at a cost of 2.5k. The basics will reap most of the horses but as you say the last 5 - 10hp cost a lot of money so questionably worth it for a road bike. Then again is an LC still and LC with an Athena motor in it, still no pv's Steve

don't get me wrong, I have probably put 100+hrs into getting my bike to perform that good in its current trim, as per my various postings/chronicles etc, the cost of dyno time is the biggest part of what I have done, although of course if I had to do another it would be a fairly cheap affair, just the cost of parts really and few hours of my time and an hour on the dyno to fine tune it, but then that's the cost of development I suppose
I've just bought a 31k, so I may very well see what I can get one of them to do with a few tweaks

Then again is an LC still and LC with an Athena motor in it, still no pv's Steve I reckon the best motor for a standard LC would be a standard stroke Athena. If you paid attention to the spec, shopped around and spent the money in the right areas, you could put one together at a reasonable cost. A more correct LC with no power valves. I was going to build one for my standard LC and have done some costings and it looks good to me. Only problem is I already had decent parts for a 4L0 motor that I really should make use of.
