I've been searching for various parts on the tinternet and have come across some parts with 31w prefix, does anybody know what 350 this prefix applies to?

I believe its the RD350LC2 31W 1983 YPVS that was German spec.

yes. The german bikes were restricted to various reduced power figures. Have a look at www.rd350lc.net for details on all types. The 31W pipes for instance were restricted by a sleeve in the header to make 29HP.

I think its only the pipes that are marked 31W, but yes basically its a european model restricted somewhat, pipes and carbs. Suffix not prefix as well

yes, agreed, the 31W was a model type, but the common parts such as exhausts were restricted on some models. 31W-14711 and 31W-14721 are for all intents and purposes identical to 31K pipes but just have a header restriction.
it takes some searching but there's useful bits out there from these bikes..
