Hi All, I'm about to finish building and run-in an RD250LC who's engine has jet been rebuilt, and was wondering about jetting and plug chopping. The problem is I'm based on an island with a 35mph speed limit (don't laugh) and was wondering if there's another way to either perform a plug chop in a this slow environment, or perhaps another way to check jetting/fuel/combustion/burn? As far as I know there are no dyno's on the island, so it leaves me a but stumped..... It's a bog std 250lc with short can allspeeds, with std airbox + filter (one jet size larger than std for shorty allspeeds, according to the instructions on this forum) and this is what I'll use to run in for 500miles - unless advised otherwise. Any help / advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, JB

I would have thought that with the standard airbox and allspeeds you are about right with the jetting - its when you fiddle with the airbox or put more radical exhausts on that you would need to "play" with jetting.
What island out of interest?

You wont need to worry about its performance if you only allowed to run it up to 35mph! One plug should suffice! Lol
Failing that, ask Norbo about his 'peddle conversion' kit!!

He lives on Guernsey where you are lucky if you can get up to 35mph!

LOL You guys are killing me - I am veritably bereft of ribs from laughing so hard! I'll be running the bike round France (30 miles away by floats and a paddle) and bringing her to the UK over for some trackdays (along with Maybe a TDR or RGV in the back of the van) so just wanted to check I wasn't gonna hole a piston or summat'. But OK std needle position with one size bigger jet an I should be fine I guess. BTW - back in me yoof (some time ago - ahem) 80mph wheelies on the Proddie 350 PV' up the coast road, and losing my licence for 22 months aged 19 for clocking 112mph past the Airport in an kitted XR2 (not injection) says you CAN speed on the island - it's just not recommended - heh heh heh. Doing the 'classic' New plug, rev it under load for a mile or so, Pull in the clutch, coast to a stop, pull the plug, then Saw off it's threads to look for the grey smoke ring at the electrode base... is in a word: Laughable. Great if setting up for a Moto gp race an hour from now and you need the thing tuned to the very ragged edge of destruction/ performance, AND are willing to accept total destruction if even a wee bit off or the air density changes significantly. before the race. Otherwise just pull your plugs after a few days use and hope that they are milk chocolate brown and ideally a wee bit oily. Which is the 'perfect' setup for real life use :-)

With Allspeeds and standard airbox and filter you shouldn't need to touch the jetting at all.

Not wishing to go on about the Isle of Man but....as you have twisted my arm, in the uk a pre 1973 vehicle is classed as historic and subject to reduced road tax, on the island its pre 1987 as the 25 year rule rolled on, what a bummer, oh how I hate living here !!!

There must be some bad points to living in the Isle of Man but I bet its difficult to think of any! Unfortunately I have never been there - I guess it's easier for us to go south as France is only a couple of hours away and the ferry/tunnel is fairly cheap. Perhaps one day we will make the effort, maybe we ought to arrange an LC meeting there!!

Its a great place bike orientated, ferry is a rip off, best with a ex mini bus/van and fill with bikes, if I can help anyone to get here etc I would be glad to help with accomodation etc. Have a look on internet, all roads are twisty quite a few with no speed limit, I am more than willing to put BBQ on etc if some folk want to come, I have a garage full of tools etc and bike transport if anyone breaks down (holes a piston plug chopping)

I have been to the IOM a few times on big bikes but the most fun time was on my LC 350 imo they are just about the perfect size for the twisties all around the island away from the actual TT course.
Like you say the ferrys are a rip off but It would certainly be a good crack if a whole load of us turned up.....

It should have started by now, but they aledge that the ship they are purchacing hasn't been released, the guy is promising cheaper fares and is due to launch in time for the TT as you said, but it is the Isle of Man ......maybe next year eh ! PS its a good job I like it here its traumatic and expensive getting off and back on and it can get you down trying to get stuff onto the Isle postage wise.

Yup, same in Guernsey, expensive to get (stuff and peops) over the water but low tax & no motor tax or MOT's, so some plus's ! Am looking to come to TT in 2014 so may bring wife, mate and couple of 2 strokes
