So I bought an engine a while ago, initially thought i'd stick it in and run it, if it goes bang then rebuild it, OMG so glad I didn't waste my time, in retrospect I shouldn't have bought it as it had been stood a while, gave it a clean and thought not bad so ultrasonically cleaned the carbs, took the reed valves off and that's when I saw the bottom skirt of the pistons, both had cracks so decided to strip it, holy crap, the oil was like treacle, my shopping list for Norbo is growing each time I remove something. So far a replacement crank or crank rebuild, clutch basket looks suspect, bores look a little rough and are already over size, obviously new pistons. It was suppose to be a cheap in and run engine, damn still Christmas is coming

Whether it's your main or spare engine, once it's done properly it will run for years.

What wonkywheel said. In my limited experience theres no such thing as a plug n play engine unless you know its history. Worth sorting, then you can thrash & forget ;-)
