Just read on another thread. Spondonchris has a lightened flywheel. I've read Norbo mention this too.
Who does it? What is done to lighten it? What/how beneficial is it?
If it's worthwhile I'll get mine done.

I've done it to an LC for racing. It allows the motor to spin up quicker be removing some flywheel effect. Don't take too much off though as I have seen them break up. For the road its hardly worth the effort getting all the swarf off the magnets !!

Im a big fan of this mod . The bike will rev a little cleaner as it doesn't have the weight to spin it all so puts less pull on the outer web as it spins.
They can brake if to much is taken of id had a few brake so I don't take as much of any more you cant feel the benefits as much with less of but at least they will stay together .

As always there is a trade off. With a lighter flywheel the motor will be more likely to bog on pull away, it will also lose momentum quicker when you are going up a hill or trying to hold speed on the motorway.

What about points ignition rd's and others without a flywheel. Are they going to slow down and stop when cruising and going up hills?

The Ypvs flywheel is actually not really that heavy or big a diameter to consider lightening is required in all but the most extreme circumstances.
Also I'd advise against it, purely on a balancing point of view.
You'll probably see a few drilled indents in it where It was balanced at the factory. Machine down the diameter and you'll loose this balancing to some extent.
An unbalanced flywheel even if it is lighter will actually do more damage to the crank!

Im a big fan of this mod. I took 3mm of the radius. Works great and is noticeable (before/after), and yes I had it balanced afterwards! Mvh Andreas
