I have a Yamaha RD 250 LC I am going to put the decals on but I am not sure if I should be going over them in clear coat lacquer.

Depends if you want it to be factory original or not. Tank decals are laquered either way, you would need the shiny type vinyl decals for the plastics if you don't laquer them.
If you're not fussed about a factory finish then laquering would be the way to go.

The usual suspects for decals I guess, I think you just specify that you want gloss vinyl for an unlaquered finish.

2k laquer will protect your decals from any petrol spills also.

Gloss vinyl will mark easily. Best to clear coat after or you can ask the decal company to laminate a protective film over them, but they won't survive being sloshed with petrol.

If you want a factory finish then laquering or laminating the decals is not a correct option. How many times have you sloshed petrol all over your side panels and tail piece? Petrol tanks are & were laquered from the factory, the OE Yamaha decals for the plastics were/are gloss and were never laquered. I have laquered over my decals on my repainted body kit for durabilty (as you say) but I have a complete set of new plastics including a boxed Yamaha pro am kit and there will be no laquer going on them for an original build.
