My understanding was that the oil light comes on and stays on with the bike in neutral. On my N2 ( just rebuilt) it comes on win the ignition, then fades out after about 10 seconds. It kind of looks like its supposed to do it, I just don't recall it doing it before.

Someone else to confirm but I think this is correct on the later powervalves.

I could not remember how the oil light worked from the old days. 1981 was a long while back.
