Those of you on Norbos BBQ ride out will have heard my puzzling about the oil light coming on so soon, after I thought I'd filled the 2 stroke tank up. Well when I got home, I found the missing oil Ho Hum. I guess that's an oil seal gone. Won't be taking it to Gibsons next weekend now. Mr Arrow, please PM me your details, I guess there's a pump coming your way.

Are you sure it's not the seal in the RH engine casing gone / come out ?

Are you sure it's not the seal in the RH engine casing gone / come out ? I'm not sure of anything just yet. Will strip it apart in a couple of weeks time & take a look. Can't see how I can fill the gearbox with 2T, unless it's leaking out of the pump, but I'm open to suggestions.

It Has To Be The Oil Pump Seal, Cant Think How Else It Would Get There, Fair Old Flow To Empty Your 2T Tank So Quick. When I Pushed My Oil Pump Drive Shaft Through The Seal It Got Stuck On The Circlip Groove So Thought I Had Ruined The Seal, (just done a 60 Mile Ride And Seems OK) Should Have Put Tape Over The Shaft Groove Before Pushing It Through Really But Didnt Think. Your Seal May Have Popped Out Alltogether If Thats Possible? Pain In The Arse Taking The Clutch Cover Off, Nice See Through Job, Jeff

Dont Know Loads But The Pump Worm Is Running In Oil And The Oil Pump Has A Gasket Seal To The Clutch Cover So I Guess The 2T Oil Is Under Pressure On One Side Of The Seal And The Gearbox Oil Is On The Other Side Of The Seal, (think i'm right) Seal Goes And Pressurised Oil Goes Into Gearbox, Sure Someone Will Agree Or Know More? 2T Oil Is About £15 A Litre As Well, Bad Loss Of Cash

Doesn't that seal just stop gearbox oil (behind the seal) leak into the space where the pump & pulley are? Because of the height of the oil tank if the seal on the worm shaft is shot the flow is; 2T oil into the gearbox and not the other way round. The worm is lubricated by 2T oil and the two oils 'butt' together either side of the worm seal, as Jeff stated. Not related, but please check oil pump minimum stroke. Most of the pumps I see have zero stroke or not much more.

I'll pull the cover & take a look. May as well get the pump rebuilt whilst it's off. Better give the clutch plates a wash as well, as they are soaking in semi synth 2T at the moment.

Lol done that before
You are lucky you had a clear clutch case. Happened to me in my teens and filled up till it pissed out the overflow and all over the back wheel.
Ride home was interesting to say the least

Ride home was interesting to say the least Steve I had an oily bike at Donington earlier this year, couldn't figure it out - at least I know what the root cause is now. Helps that the 2T is blue. The stuff I drained out after Donington just looked like overfilled gearbox oil.

Come on Jason, still time to sort it before Saturday. Or, you could drain some and ride it and fix it there - I'll give you a hand

But I'm on holiday with the Mrs in Great Yarmouth until late Friday. So coming on the HD The speed with which it emptied my 2T tank suggests that a 300 mile round trip ain't too sensible, just in case. Had enough oil on the back tyre at Donnington.

Oil pump back from Mr Arrow today. Top job & he's supplied the missing bits, which is probably what caused my issues in the 1st place.
