Just started my rebuild engine for the 1st time. Prior to running, I put 1.5l of oil in the gearbox, after which it was way over max on the stick. After the first run to fully warm on the drive, I waited 10 mins and checked the level: this time way off minimum, even with he stick screwed in. Now I'm not sure if the capacity is 1500cc (as it says on the engine casing) from a fully rebuilt engine or if it should be 1700cc (1500cc for a normal drain & refil). I'm also not sure if the level should really drop that much, so if anyone can tell me it's OK I'd be relieved!
It's an N2 and it's had new gen yam crank seals. Was smoking evenly on both pipes after running up.

The 1500cc/ml is for refilling after just an oil change. If you have had the engine completely stripped you refill with 1700cc/ml. If you still only have 1500cc in the gearbox try adding 200cc/ml to see if that brings the level up with the bike upright on level ground with the dipstick just resting on the case threads and not screwed in.

Cheers for the reply. I thought that might be the case.

The box is not fussy on oil level. I run mine with a full 2 litres to keep the clutch rattle down. No issues doing that in 2 years.

I would personally make sure the level is correct when checking on the dipstick as the gearbox only relies on "splash" lubrication for the gears as no pump is fitted.
