i recently had my 500 checked over and the mechanic said the power valves weren't doing the cleaning cycle correctly when the ignition was switched on , they where doing the normal whirring noise but doing a clicky noise at the end , the mechanic managed to free the valves by using WD40 and everthing was ok , but it has now started to do the clicky noise again , i've checked to see if the valves are returning to the proper return setting and they nearly are but not quite ! ! ! does anyone know how i can get some lubrication into the power valves without having to take all the barrels off ? i could try WD40 but is WD40 ok to use on rubber ?

I've seen a 350 pv motor strip its gears because of binding etc. If yours is clicking it could be stripped gears. If that has happened then you have bigger problems with either sticking p/v's & or your p/v cables are binding up. Need to remove p/v cables from the p/v motor, then move cables by hand, you should be able to move p/v's back n forth easily by hand. If the guy has used wd40 to get them moving then that dosent sound right. They self lubricate when running. While cables are off turn ignition on & let pv motor cycle thru n see or hear what happens. How often do you ride it & when was last time you checked oil pump operation/oil flow? I'd also be asking on this forum for a mechanic that knows what they're doing with these things.....

As above. Check the cables are free and also the valves are free to turn by hand with the cables/linkage removed. Sounds like the valves have probably got a build up of carbon on them not allowing them to revolve freely. Spraying WD40 in them won't really do any good.
