Hello Guys
A year or so back there was a fella on ebay remaking petrol tanks for about £330. At the time i never went for one and cannot seem to find him around now. Does anyone know who he was, is he making the tanks now, are/were the tanks anygood.
I`ve seen the indian ones on ebay and they dont look too clever in the pictures but again if anyone can shed light on them i would like to know more.
Most of the second hand tanks seem to have issues or the answers to questions on ebay are a bit vague. If anyone on here has a good tank i`d be interested to have a look. I`m in the surrey area but would travel if the tank seemed worth it.
Any advise or help or offers of tanks would be appreciated.
Cheers

Im also a Surrey member - see you near Boxhill one Sunday if it stops raining !

Yes it was dan at legend motorcycles.
He struggled to sell the ones he had made and last time I contacted him for another member abroad he said he had no plans to make more.
As far as I understand it they were good but needed a little prep as they were not pressed but were tig welded panels so welds needed dressing.
A lot better than a rusty tank

Forget about the Indian tanks... Unless your building a rat bike, and don't mind modifing it to make it fit!

As far as I understand it they were good but needed a little prep as they were not pressed but were tig welded panels so welds needed dressing. A lot better than a rusty tank Steve When these tanks were originally made (LC) and discussed on the old forum, I am almost certain that it was recommended to use a liner in the tank also, due to (as you mention) the way they were made in sections. I don't think there was a guarantee that the welds were not/could not become pourous, maybe this was changed? In my opinion they were expensive when you add the cost of tank liner, paint and decals and you still have a tank with a liner in it. That's not to say I think handmaking a tank should be cheap, far from it, but they would have ended up NOS Yamaha money.

If his tanks were in the ball park of his Z900 repro tanks (£445), they were bloody good value in my mind. Its £536 for a new tank for my hornet, which isn't 30 yrs old and not available anymore. Shame he couldn't shift em.

Don't think that is actually a bad price Steve I have seen quite a few NOS tanks for sale and that is about the going rate (or a tad high) compared to all of the ones I have seen. This I why I thought the price of the repo ones were expensive, you would be close to that price after paint, decals and then have to stick a liner in it. I would pay that if I was desperate for a tank, but I'm not so I wouldn't....
