Now, here's the question... I've just had a load of stuff vapour blasted and ultrasonically cleaned. Footrest hangers, calipers and carbs. Now whilst most of it is great, the cleaning process has removed all corrosion from the peg hangers and now the surface is less than desirable... I've got a colour that is a very close match to the original alloy colour and can fill the surface and end up with beautiful hangers, but... What does everyone think..? should they be bare..? I've heard conflicting reports about the originals being painted or not... The rest of the bike is an anorak build but without green bolts if that makes sense... Ideas..?? Reg

I cleaned up my footrest hangers with a scotchbrite wheel in an electric drill. Gives a lovely brushed alloy effect. Done the forks the same way.

I don't think I've made this very clear... The calipers are being painted, they're fine. The carbs are already back together...
It's the footrest hangers that are in question.. The surface of the alloy is very badly pitted. The vapour blast and ultrasonic process has removed all the fine surface oxidization and left surface pitting that is very visible.. I think paint may be the only option...

Your the best judge mate,I've got a painted set that came with a bike,,really nice paint job but they still don't look right,,I would rub em down with some wet and dry and then polish or scotch brite ,you can't accidentally chip em then with ya boots,,your call mate ,,good luck

) I know... I can match the standard silver colour quite easily, but it might chip.. I think I might get them powder coated to match the swingarm... Has to be silver, not black...

Those cast alloy gizmos are surprisingly thick. It may be possible to sand the surface down to below the pitting ? A belt sander used with care, prior to a repolish effort. perhaps? Painted alloy often looks like a poor repair/cover up.

Don't be afraid to sand or rub the hangers down to below the pitting,as bare said, they are very thick,I filed the casting marks off mine with a metal file to give a nice smooth finish along the top. I think the alloy hangers are a nice feature of the LC and I it would be a shame to paint them. Having said that,it's your bike,I'm doing mine to my taste inc white wheels ffs. lol
