After gutting the carbs, having them vapour blasted and renewing all the insides again, I came up with a slight problem. The old 45 degree cable holders I took out and bought new 45 degree elbows from Allen's, but found they are somewhat shorter than OEM. Where the originals are put through the caps and then splayed, the newer one's come with a thread because they screw into the after market caps. Anyone any ideas, without resulting the old bends? I can stick a picture up, if this sounds a bit confusing. Thanks in advance.

They are well rusted up and as the rest of the carb looks spanking new I thought a fresh pair would look better, but unavailable. So I guess I will have to use the old ones.

pidz, your not the only person to worry about such things - I am too.
20 years ago it wouldn't have even registered they were shabby looking.
Anyway I used older LC carb tops on my present build with 31k carbs. These are the removable ones with a circlip. Just got them zinc plated along with the other bits.
I have another 31k set for my next build, and these have the peened over tubes that are not removable.
I was thinking of bead blasting them and using lacquer.
If you want I give it a try and see what they look like?

4L0/1 carb top elbows are similar to 31K but are secured with a circlip on the underside & AFAIK are still available. OEB

I don't know why the chromed elbows on the Allen's replacements, were not just 10mm longer, then a locknut each side of the cap would have done nicely. I will see then if I can get the 4LO/1 elbows from Granby's. Thanks jon/oldelsieboy, good info.

The 31K tubes are removable but you need a nice set of pipe grips with a sharp right-angle on the jaw to allow you to squeeze the flange in and remove the tube. I did it last week and the tubes are now being plated zinc-yellow with some other stuff. I will let you know how I eventually re-flange them.
