On Saturday the 28th of September, we are going to have a run out to Scotland staying in Edinburgh on the Saturday night and on the sunday on to Oban. Not going to do it on the lc, am doing it on a gixxer 750 as going with other diesel riders and it is a long way from Yorkshire. Anybody fancy coming or just have a drink with us in Edinburgh on the Saturday night. Kingsley Davies from the north east RD owners club e mailed me a route and they are doing this exact route this week end, so if you see a load of RD's then you know who it is. What do the people who live north of the border think of this route?
Hi Mick,
On the A1 NEWCASTLE, you have a choice, either A69 or A696 past the Airport, both leading to A68 towards JEDBURGH, (fuel stop)
continuing on to EDINBURGH.
A720 CITY BYPASS
A8 TO NEWBRIDGE
M9 GRANGEMOUTH STIRLING (fuel stop/food stop at Services)
A82 TYNDRUM
A82 GLENCOE (the longer way to Oban but well worth it! & fuel stop)
A828 OBAN
Check it out m8, cracking ride!
Best Regards,
Kingsley

did it in the pissing-rain with them a couple of years ago on my aircooled.
MEt them at Newbridge and rode with them in a monsoon to Tyndrum.
be VERY wary of speed traps on that whole route once you are in Scotland.
the bit from Newcastle airport to Edinburgh is Ok, then the bit from Stirling on is OK.
Where are you staying when your in Edinburgh?

The only thing I can suggest is from Yorkshire, A1 First turn off after Scotch Corner take B6275 Through Piecebridge to A68 follow to Edinburgh.
Going all the way to Edinbrough on the A1 is the quickest route, but boring as hell.
Enjoy the trip.

BAAAASSSTTTAAAARRDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At my van at Berwick upon Tweed with the family that weekend. Would have been a good run ( if dry ) but would have been a tough choice between the Fazer 1000 and the RD but think the Fazer may have won it for comfort.
The run from Stirling through to Glencoe is awesome but as said watch for speed traps. Have only seen camara vans over the last couple of years outwith the 30mph villages so not so bad. Usually in a layby in the middle of a straight, nothing too sneaky but be wary of other bikes. Years ago there used to be unmarked bikes but think the old cutbacks sorted them out.
Used to go out every other Friday years ago and do the Stirling/Crianlarich/Loch Lomond/Glasgow run. Would start with a gentleman's agreement to keep it under 100 which was usually forgotten by Lochearnhead resulting in the 750 turbo or FZR1000 getting flat out.
Just be wary as can go from stupid speed sweepers to tight and twisty quite quickly. Callendar to Strathyre is a nice twisty bit through the trees and lochside. Watch out for the blind crescent falling straight into a corner, catches a lot of people out.
Enjoy
Steve
