Ok guys and gals, for those of you who have been following my previous exploits, I am now in a position to do my next phase of testing, which is an exhaust test. To remind you all of where I got up to, you can read the 2 previous threads below....... rdlccrazy.proboards.com/thread/18909/mods-350lc-midrange-1rdlccrazy.proboards.com/thread/20058/350lc-mid-range-2?page=1I am waiting on the exhaust fairy to bring me the various makes etc, but I am fairly sure I will be testing in the realms of 6 different makes of exhaust on my 350LC. To recap, the current state of my bike is; 1. Stock engine (except 1mm O/S) 2. PWK carbs fitted, running oil pump 3. Standard airbox and foam filter (but lid removed) 4. Small can Allspeeds (30+yr old ones, not the new Gibson ones) 5. 2mm BTDC timing 6. Banshee coils fitted 7. 10mm reed block spacers fitted 8. Slightly modified reed cages 9. Hytech reed petals fitted Currently making 49BHP with a strong mid range. The test will basically consist of the following; 1. Baseline of bike as detailed above, with any tweaks made etc to optomise things (if necessary) 2. Fit another set of exhausts and run bike without tweaking, take readings etc 3. Modify carburation etc to make the bike run as best as it can with exhausts fitted, record the settings and BHP etc 4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for remaining exhausts until we are done 5. Go to pub and drink lots of beer and talk bollocks all night about bikes !! Once I've had chance to review all of the info, graphs etc I will publish up the results, this will be a completely unbiased test and is only testing pipes for the road really as race pipes really work best on tuned motors, which mine isn't Watch this space.......

Good on you Mutts... Is a fair bit of effort to say the least, but will prove very helpful to many, me included. Cheers!

Testing on an Eddy current type Dyno?? or a Dyno-jet bodge. Big difference.

Testing on an Eddy current type Dyno?? or a Dyno-jet bodge. Big difference. Its a DynoStar Pro dyno, its a 500bhp dyno and is used by all of the top private race teams and straight liners in the uk, its only one of 2 in the UK I believe, if anything, it is tight on its figures, so the BHP etc is very accurate, plus the operator knows his stuff, he's been doing it for well over 25+yrs !

It would be nice to find out if the mod to the original pipes we did in the 80s made any difference. But I'm not going to hack my pipes in half to find out.

I was riding over to France years back, broke an LC pipe en route - losing a baffle near Southampton and had the pipe welded up in Calais.. Anyroadup, I bought a baffle from the French mechanic's proddie racer that had been shortened maybe 6" - he showed me the Yamaha France service tip paperwork for the mod. Shortened the other one and she flew!

hehe, yes results are in, lots of data to analyse etc, results/outcome is very different to what I was expecting but to keep you all interested until I get it all written up etc, lets say a certain person on here who makes pipes came out top overall..........

I expect he will as his pips are made for standard motors and the other pipes on test are race pipes made for tuned motors but I still look forward to the results.

ok, I know a few of you might just be waiting on the results of my exploits on Saturday, I've got to go through the many charts and graphs and also do a few comparisons etc, plus I am also going to fit a standrad set of pipes on my bike before I change it from the base settings that we used on Saturday so that we can see how much they really all make compared to a standard set.
Once I get my TSA pipes I will do the standard pipe test and then set my bike up to run as perfect as I can get it with the TSA's on so we have a real good bench mark and a real world view of what is possible with some tweaking etc
I'll create a new thread when I've done all the analysis as otherwise it might get lost under this thread - I'll call it something like "LC Exhaust shoot out" or summat like
