Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures, there are 20-odd on the NERDOC Facebook page, including a short video of when we stopped at Hartside. I'm off work so I'll give an account of my weekend....
We drove over from Morecambe and got there around 10.30am, it was the first time I'd been to any RD rally, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I had an LC years ago and decided to buy another after packing in racing last year, my wife thinks its all a bit nerdy, a load of middle aged blokes hanging around in a field together and talking about the bikes of their youth.
Anyway, as soon as we arrived I was introduced to Jackie Palmer, who promptly made me a nice brew and we got the tents up. Got that sorted and then the ride out was on.
The ride out was brilliant, led by (I think) Martin on an air cooled RD. We got a little bit carried away and broke away from the main group, so I don't know what kind of ride they had but me, Martin, Terry and Steve (Scruff) had a great time, swapping positions and enjoying the ride. The rain hit us about 10 miles away from Hartside, but made little difference to the pace, the wind across the tops was shocking, but it was still fun, my bike is geared 15/42 and I was flat out on the tank, top gear, throttle on the stop at one point trying to cut through the rain and wind.
Quick brew at Hartside then we'd had enough and wanted to get going, so we set off and went back across the moors. Terry had had enough by then and took it steady in the rain, I still had a bit of fight left in me and kept goading Scruff to go faster, and everyone else joined in once we got down off the tops and it dried out a bit. All in all it was one of the best rides I've had on this LC.
The evening was good too, band were ok and we went steady with just a couple of pints each.
Unfortunately the rain was hammering down all night, I went back to my tent at about midnight and it had leaked in, my sleeping back was soaked through and water could be rung out of it. So after just about drying out from the ride-out (I forgot to bring spare clothes) I then got into a sopping wet sleeping back. Had about 2 hours sleep all night and got up around 6am shivvering and dripping wet. At least the drive back in Terrys van was warm.
