Wet/dry 600 grade should take it out, time consuming job though.

My wheels were in fairly nice condition and I could get a lovely polished finish around the rims, but when I decided to strip the bike for a re-build I accidently had them powder coated white.

Mine were a right mess.. Like Arrow says, hit 'em with wet and dry. I started with some 320 then 600 and finished with some 2000. All they need now is a 'good polish'. They came up pretty good.

I did mine on the F1 and LC421 rebuilds, check my site link below for the info but I agree with the others, its a rewarding, albeit slow, job.

If you still have the original lathe marks left, try not to take them away (sometimes you have to though). I'd just buff straight on top of the lathe marks. If they are still clearly visible ufcourse. Otherwise just f**k it and sand and polish. A thing wirth mentioning when doing RD wheels, is that you shall try to keep the edges between the shiny areas and the painted areas on the spokes as sharp as possible. It will look 10x better with sharp edges when you get the paint on. I happen to know this from experience lol. Edit: You mentioned putting the rims in a lathe and sand them?? Please do not. You'll get caught and rip your f**king arm off lol, and even if you manage not to do that, the surface will not be the same as a properly CNC-turned surface.

I spun my wheels with a drill and an old polishing mop, the drill/mop wasnt solidly connected to the wheel and any force, like getting yer hand caught, would stop the wheel dead. Not the safest, but also not that dangerous either. Be careful out there lads!

I cheated...my rear wheel is in very good condition, the front isnt.
I bought a front wheel at a good price , which was in far, far better condition than mine, nigh on mint in fact, I shall fit that as it is and sell my not quite so good wheel..save me a lot in finger wear and even I cant fcuk it up!
