Does anyone have an idea what Gibson exhausts do to the power curve compared to a standard 350LC? The reason I ask is that I have just refurbished some original pipes and put them on the bike just for a change. Hell, what a change. The power band is still there but nothing like as dramatic. The bike definitely feels like it has lost some top end plus there is a noticeable flat spot around 4500 rpm. Everything else is standard including airbox and jets/ needle positions. How much extra bhp do the Gibson pipes produce at he top end?
As soon as I can get some new port gaskets to fit the Gibson pipes ( standard copper gaskets have too small an internal diameter to fit over the pipe lip) they are going back on - and staying on!

they take a little from the bottom end give a better power band sound crisper look a hell of a lot better but don't allow the bike to rev out. as rool no up jets are needed but most people fined 1 size up can help when they are fitted

Come along to the Gibson dyno day with both sets of pipes & you can get a printout showing exactly what the difference is.

One of the problems with standard pipes is that it is almost impossible to clean out all the old gunk from 2 stroke oil that has built up over the years, the standard pipes were pretty restrictive when new, but after all this time my experience is they choke the performance across the range. I have got Gibsons on mine and it runs lovely and pulls better across the whole rev range.

That's exactly what I've found Rickbrown. The bike is a total slug with the standard pipes compared to the Gibsons. I don't ever remember my original LC being that much slower on standard pipes compared to Microns in 1981. I rode that bike to what is now Croatia and back, two up and it pulled really well as standard. This one couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding. What cheeses me off is that I've just spent 2 days and £30 (on new baffles) refurbishing the original pipes I got with the bike to come to the same conclusion as you - Gibsons back on ASAP!

Do Gibsons sell custom port gaskets to go with their pipes? The standard gaskets have too small an internal diameter to fit around the inner lip and I was getting gas blow out using copper based gaskets. Did you find this problem with your Gibsons?

Just checked my exhausts and they do indeed have a '0' stamped on the hanger, so it looks like they are 350 unrestricted pipes. The pipes are stamped 4L0-14721 and 4L0-14711. They are now off the bike and will be wrapped up and stored until such time as I want a slug of an LC back. Amazing how heavy they are compared to the Gibsons too.
