Hello All!
Looking to buy my first 2 stroke in many a long year and have seen a very nice YPVS. Visually it looks like an N2 but as I understand it these were phased out in 87/88. This bike is on a later number plate with serial number 1WT 017***. Apologies, tried to match this against the model info on the site but got confused - seems to happen more often these days!! Do I assume this was originally an F2 changed to N2 spec?
Many thanks Axeman

Welcome to the forum axeman. I think you might be right about the change of spec on the bike, but someone else will be along soon to confirm.

Thanks for the welcome arrow. An additional question then - assuming a spec change ( hopefully someone to confirm )would this affect the desirability / cost of the bike or is it only the real purists that would be bothered? Thanks in advance for the input!

Both very nice bikes. The purists would say it affects the value just a little.

1WT is an F2
It depends what you're buying it for. If you're buying it because you like the look of it and want to ride it then it doesn't matter, buy it and enjoy it.
If you're one of the green bolt brigade who get their knickers in a twist if you use the wrong washer then it will annoy you.
As for price, then it might affect it a bit, it might not fetch as much as a bog standard original N2, but in my mind thats brilliant because it means we can buy them and ride them for less. I don't know if I've ever ridden a standard RD350 as it left the factory, back in the day we all customised them, for me thats what owning an LC is all about.

1WT is an F2 & N2 too ! 1WT005*** is an N2 - don't know how many made though ?... Correct. European N2 start 1WT-005101 European F2 start 1WT-015101 So it sounds like a converted F2.

Yep, That's right. I have a genuine N2 with matching numbers 1WT-005xxxx. The bloke I bought it off thought it was an F2 conversion as somone had fitted an F2 tank. The genuine N2s (or good conversions/ restorations) have three speed block instead of two. For a riding point of view, a convered F2 and N2 are identical - all the key parts are the same. The only differences (other than lack of fairing) are headlight, clocks, horn mountings and possible some of the routing of cables on the front end. I think a few F2s got converted as a cheaper repair option when they got checked down the road. Genuine N2s are quite rare as they were only made fo about a year and generally people preferred the F2 with fairing as it looked more like a modern sports bike (in 1986).

Thanks for all the input gentlemen - much appreciated. As it seems like a converted F2 that might be a bargaining tool to get a few quid off. He who dares......!!!! Will post some pics if I clinch the deal. Cheers Axeman
