Just fitted a new rear disk and pads and it binding a bit appears not to release off....had calliper off and one of the pistons is a little sticky. Seals are ok no leaks or rust but wondered if its ok after pushing the piston out a bit to use silicon spray to clean it and hopefully lube the seal a bit....or should I stay with copper slip?
Simple job but it just will not move freely on one side and keeping the pads binding a bit.

Also make sure the tiny hole in the master cylinder is clear and not getting covered by the seal when the pedal is at rest.

Cheers never thought of that...appears to be just one piston side that won't release well

Is it floating calliper or opposed piston set up?

Make sure there is play before the brake pedal pushes the master cylinder piston as that can make a brake bind to the point of overheating and locking on. However, if one piston isn't returning fully then I suspect you may need to strip the caliper and remove the pistons and seals and clean everything up.
You could try pumping the piston out and lubing it with clean brake fluid or red rubber grease but whatever you do don't use copper grease on the piston.

When the pads are worn, the piston comes out further and be but that's exposed can rust a bi or get covered in crud. When you fit new pads, the rusty, cruddy bit get pushed into the seal and sticks, so that might be the problem. As others have said, pop the pistons out and give them a good clean. If they are a bit rusty, try some wire wool and WD40 (or whatever) and clean off with brake cleaner.

Try using some "red rubber grease" when rebuilding your brakes. Other solvents/chemicals may not agree with the hydraulic fluid and/or seals

Thanks for advice...just got back from Hols and decided to ave a go at the calliper managed to free it up it was one side sticking...just pumping out the piston cleaning pushing back and repeating this appears to have solved it....however did put a very little smear of copper slip around the Paton before pushing back..hope I have not caused another issue....
