Where are and what are the reference points for float height mesurments guys. Is the carb upright or upside down when mesured.
Is it gasket face to bottom of float ,,,float arm , or what . Maybe a dumb question but i have no idea.
Thanks all
Davey

Remove the gasket and measure using a ruler that measures from the edge. In this photo you can see a work bench behind because the carb is held at a right angle to take weight off the spring. When measuring, you want the floats to be resting on the spring but not compressing it. It was another forum member who took this photo. So thanks to them, whoever it was.

Correct me some one if Im wrong ,but I was led to believe you took the measurement with the gasket on as it will alter the height the bowl sits

Quote Haynes.
With the float bowl removed slowly rotate the carburettor until gravity acting on the floats moves the float until the valve is JUST closed, but not so far that the needle's spring loaded pin is compressed.
Measure the distance between the gasket face and the bottom of the float with an accurate ruler.
The correct setting should be 21.0 +/- 0.5mm (0.827 +/- 0.020in).

That to me is just the base setting now you need to make sure the fuel level is right, I use clear pipe from the float bowl drain on fitted carbs, to check both have the same fuel height.
