Hi there, I'm new here after buying and referbing a 350 lc. Had one when I was 18 and as a lot of us did, I wrote it off! ! The bike runs fine whilst on the stand, starts first kick, ticks over great The problem come when I try to ride it, won't really pull above 4,000 revs. Have cleaned and checked carbs, both jets clean, tube clean and holes clear. All drillings clear, good flow of petrol etc. Have tried it choke in or out, no difference, turn the fuel off to lower fuel level - still the same! !
This is driving me crazy, can anyone please help ?

I've tried spraying wd40 around the inlet rubbers and there is no change in the engine. The seals on the carb tops are good. Have stripped the carbs again and found a hole in the body near the top of where the emulsion tube sits. This goes backwards the air intake but doesn't seem to connect to anything, ie I can't get any air through it. Does anyone know if this is correct? If its not then what should it connect to? ? Thanks

A photo would be great to help identify if the hole is a problem or not !. Have you removed the needle jets to ensure they are not blocked ?. Have you confirmed the timing ?.

Thanks for the help. Can't seem to upload a pic, wont paste in or can't do it as an attachment. I have removed the needle, the main jet and the pilot jets. I then took the brass emulsion tube out. These are all spotless All other galleries are clear and I can pass air through them. The one in question sits in the main carb body, about 5mm down the casting that holds the emulsion tube and main jet - facing backwards towards the air inlet. Looking into the carb from the air box side there are 4 holes, the top one being for the choke, then going anticlockwise the next goes through to the pilot air screw and the next 2 are blanked off. It lines up with the last 1 which is a 6 o clock. The timing is ok to the F mark - going to check with DTI this afternoon.

Thanks for that arrow. UPDATE - - - - Check the timing - dead on. Rebuilt the carbs - again - and refitted. Took it out for a test ride WITHOUT the rubbers connecting to the air box. Ran a lot lot better, checked the plugs - running rich. Lowered the needle to 1 from the top, runs good, just hesitates a little around 5,000 then take off like an LC should! ! Checked the plugs again and still a little black but no where near as bad. Put the rubbers back on - back to the start. My conclusion is the it's way too rich? I believe the jets are correct but have ordered some new ones. Any other ideas? The float heights are correct at 22mm

The float height should be 21mm, but I can't see it making that much difference.

Can't say I've ever noticed a hole like that in my 31K carbs, someone with this type of carbs maybe able to shed some light on it. May get time to strip my spare set tomorrow for a look. If carb hole is confirmed ok, then I would check main jet, pilot, and needle sizes again standard and go from there !. Possible to large main or worn needle/jets. I'm sure I've read somewhere that the brass ball which the hole aligns with, can be removed to allow cleaning of the pilot circuit. Still scratching my head about that hole!
