Hello to everybody, first time here. Whats happened I'm a forty odd guy and I've just bought a 350LC? I passed test 25 years ago but not been riding last 10 years I've always fancied this model or rather RD350LC 4L0 as I know now the prefix VIN codes info so to cut a long story short it's a 4L1 with matching 4L1 on documents but is now a 347cc on the V5 from 247cc around '92. I collect it next week is in for MOT and I haven't checked physical chassis / engine numbers (stupid I know). I assume if OK then original engine has been increased. If not OK......anything of course. I have some V5 history in photocopies and some MOTs; An oddity is on V5 VIN / chassis no. 4L103xxxx. (is9digits) Engine no. 4L13xxxx. (is 8digits) From photocopy this is on very first V5 right up to the one I have.
On MOT to 2001 VIN is 4L1-3xxxx handwritten. Then on green MOT is 4L103xxxx
Overall excellent condition. Cost me £2500-£3000 at the time I didn't realise significance? Is it just LCs that get this more? I'm sorry to post this first. I was looking forward to this bike so much but not now. I would SO appreciate anyone's comments before I collect it. Perhaps but back to 250cc? I know there are slight differences in 250 and 350 as well as engine.
I hope my next post is of lighter subject and thanks to anyone in advance if they have a short moment to make an observation.
Regards, Gary
RD350LC or maybe not!

Hi,
4L1 started as a 250 LC which is the same bottom end as 350 so if you change the oil pump, top end, carbs and exhausts the engine is the same other than the number prefix.
4L0 bikes are worth more but if it is in really good nick then up to 3k ish is fine. Other things different are twin horns, and twin discs along with the rear wheel being different ( 250 has no cush drive)
Still worth more as a 350 even if converted especially if 350 on doc. If I remember right the numbers difference is normal.

Hi Gary Is this the one what is on ebay for £2600 if so I was very tempted in buying it but came across a bargain 31k ypvs the seller did say in the advert about sticking throttle slide so if this is the bike give it a good check mate before you ride it but on the plus side I think its worth the money also about the number's best check them yourself when you pick up as sometime's DVLA do make mistake's and miss a number off both number's should start 4L1 and im 99% sure the first digit on the number is alway's a 0

I would say you've got your self a lovely looking bike there worth every ££. So what if it started as a 250 its a 350 now and that's what you wanted. Enjoy. To many people get hung up about matching numbers etc...

Yeah, your all correct I think. Panic over!
Just got to get a jacket to suit the bike. Any ideas on style?? I,ve got my old traditional sort of plain highish leather boots and new Kevlar Jeans. I'll shut up after this until I bring the bike back!
Thanks all.

Hi Gary, If it's the one in the link that dex46 put on then I'd say you got yourself a very nice looking LC there. Hope you enjoy it.

Forgot to say I have a 175mx I'm restoring with a 0 missing on the chassis number on the v5, common DVLA mishap. That's what I meant with being normal, have heard the first zero missed out. Best thing is that the numbers on the bike are right and the vin on the V5 is right. Will be fine as is but if it niggles you there is no problem changing the engine number, I have changed mine twice as I put different engines in. Just sent the V5 off with the new ( correct ) engine number and it will come back correct. It's the capacity that can cause problems and the vin cannot be changed. Think you have a good buy there and as others say the matching numbers ( which lets face it you actually have ) ain't important to people. It's a decent LC and that's what matters. Steve

Hi gary and welcome, You must check not just the pump but the pump drive they are different for the 250 to the 350. I think the 350 has a courser worm drive than the 250 but if im wrong somone will be along to confirm this

My current LC was built from the parts of three different bikes. The end result was gorgeous and I am just happy to have a minty LC to ride. Don't give a damn about what numbers are on it.
