What paint are people using for the head, barrels and engine cases on their restoration projects? I'm about to start rebuilding my 4LO engine and I'm not sure whether to paint or powder coat, unsure about resistance to fuel spillage etc. Also, do you use paint stripper, sand blast or vapour blast? Any advice appreciated.

Rattle can head and pots , powder coat case's if you rattle can the case's they won't last five minutes because you will get fuel spillage on them. PJ1 is the rattle can to use. Let the powder coaters blast them as its part of the process anyway.

Ive had great results with vapour blasting and BBQ paint on the barrels and heads. As already said, maybe a different story with the cases tho. Powder coating may be the way to go there. V.

Simonez Engine Enamel for my barrels - good match with the head (which I just touched up but didn't strip. My barrels weren't painted so not sure how to remove. Have used Nitromors on other paint on the bike with varying dgerees of sucess. Wouldn't rate its chances on the original stove enamel!

The guy who rebuilt my LC used some unknown paint on the side covers and it is terrible with fuel spillage. The paint practically wipes off. Gotta get that powder coated next time.
