Hi all, I know it's been said before, but I feel the need to "big up" Arrow and his oil pump service. From start to finish, he has been brilliant. His knowledge is first rate, as is his attention to detail. He received my pump on Friday morning and it was back with me today (Monday morning), looking like brand new. He has uprated the oil output and included an in depth list of what he has done. I had planned on running premix on the Yamasaki, but after seeing the quality of his work I will be sending him another pump so I can run autolube. Thanks again Gary, absolutely brilliant service Dusty

Thank you for the kind words Dusty. My absolute main aim with the pumps is to delight their owners, and long may it continue.

Arrow in general as oil pumps age do they tend to deliver more or less oil than the original spec. I've always thought mine was overly oily and have been meaning to do some checks. Also I noticed on removing carbs there always seem to be a small pool of 2t in the carb outlet - I was wondering whether pressure from the pump continues for a little while after the motor has stopped which causes this pooling and causes a very smoky experience the next time the bikes started from cold.

I spoke to Gary both on the phone and through PM's on this forum. His knowledge and understanding of these pumps is first rate, and for what it costs, an overhaul is a no brainer really. When I think about how much the Yamasaki engine has cost me to rebuild, a pump overhaul is a minor cost for peace of mind. Highly recommended. Dusty

That's a good question. As the pumps age they produce a lot less oil up to around 3/4 throttle as most I have seen have zero gap on the shim set up, due to lack of maintenance (Yamaha recommend this is reset every 2000 miles). The pumps generally produce less oil at the full bore setting as they age due to wear on the cams, but most I see are still in spec and fit for continued service. The wear limit is around 12%. Some time ago I devised a check to measure the cam wear. It sounds to me like you have a check valve passing. This can be sorted in the vast majority of cases, if not it can be sorted by swapping over the main casting for another one. I have had to do this casing swap on just two occasions.

I posted my pump last Friday and got it back on Tuesday, like new and re-shimmed with a higher output. When Gary stripped the pump he found that it had zero stroke and a worn cam, so a huge relief that I had sent it to him and not just fitted it back on to my newly-rebuilt engine after all the time, money and effort I have thrown at it. Couldn't recommend him highly enough!

I have jumped onto this old posting just to give the 'Thumbs up' to arrow on his oil pump service.
I sent him first an old crappy 250 pump which I found fitted in some 350? engine crankcase cover that I had. Once I learnt my red from yellow I then found him the correct pump . The pump come back looking like new , with loads of help and info from Arrow .
Top marks.
