Hi Peter, been there m8. When you say no spark at plugs have you got them earthed to a head bolt - the spark on these old girls are very weak even at there very best !. Had starting problems with my bike after being laid up for 6 months, turn out to be old petrol. So if its older than 2/3 months then ditch it and try fresh - but make sure you have some sort of spark at the plugs first!. If not it could be as simple as the kill switch or kill switch wiring plug - had an issue with mine a couple of years back - new harness but black/ white wire from the Rhs switches was badly corroded giving no spark!. Don't give up mate, where are you, someone maybe close by to help out !.

Also a good thing to check out is that you have a good earth at the coil. Some people even expose the bare frame under the coil mount to ensure a good earth. With both plugs laid out on the head, you should be able to turn it over by the kick start fast enough by hand to give you a spark !.

CDI Faulty. Next time it chucks it whip the tank off and shove a plug in the cap and earth it.
Turn the engine over....no spark....tap the cdi and it will hopefully produce a spark. I have 3 cdi's with intermittent faults that work when tapped.
Good Luck.

Sounds like it could be coil. Fingers crossed the new one cures the problem.

I'm guessing CDI unit. There was a bunch of them over a certain year that were prone to faults. I've seen people fit clamps around them and this seems to work......
