Guy's some time ago I got some genuine seal kits for the forks on the 4LO. I have one drain fork and one non drain so I decided to sort it out. Here is the issue. For the life of me I cant decide which way round this seal should go in. The part number started 4LO but the seal is different from the one fitted. See pic 1, the outside has a taper on one end and the opposite of a taper on the other end, This would suggest the taper does in first but the end to the right in the pic is the "open" end of the seal. Pic 2. shows the "closed" end normally used for drifting in, but the taper is also on this end, so it doesn't make sense to me. The seal is double lipped and has a garter spring to both lips. Anyone help please?

Personally I would put it in the 2nd photo way round. For the reason my fork seal driver would seat better with this side to push it in.

Bottom photo as that way 2 lips fight against the oil pressure and 1 lip on the outermost part of the seal to keep any debris out. I think that's right the right way, going off the angles of the sealing "lips" and 2 "lips" acting against oil pressure makes more sense than one. I know what you mean about the taper going in first but I have just removed 2 seals and the taper was outward. So maybe fitting the non tapered end first gives a better seal against the fork leg because on the seals before me have a slightly wider diameter at the non tapered end. Or I could be talking *ollox. Or the taper fitted outwards may enable the urangutan with the sharp screwdriver better access to chisel out the seal and damage the fork leg

2nd picture is the correct way fitted, with the writing to the top (showing), so as all of the above have said

Writing up and always genuine. But some pattern are not that clear. In theory, they should be like single edged car wiper blades. If you glob some oil on the leg and run the seal up and down, the oil should smear one way and wipe the other. That should give you the direction.
