I'm pretty sure I've read somthing on the forum about setting up the oil pump.
There was some stuff (I guess written by arrow) on how much oil should be delivered in how many strokes of the pump? I think it had figures for flow on min and max stroke.
Tried to use the search function but doesn't seem to work. Does anybody know where it is (could have been burried in a thread...)
Have just rebuilt my engine - I've no reason to think the oil pump is suspect, but I'm becoming paranoid!
Cheers.

So you've re-built a 30 year old engine but not the 30 year old pump that keeps it alive?

Guy's I'm just starting work on a project for a high capacity oil pump for big bore/long stroke motors. It will be a 4LO/YPVS (350) pump. This is not a shimmed up item but a redesign. Oiling can be standard or more up to 3/4 throttle (shims) with increased capacity from 3/4~full throttle. Now the burning question, do we have anyone on here with such a bike willing to try the new pump? Pump will be donated free to the first willing volunteer. Cheers.

I was assuming that if it's adjusted according to the manual and I've checked the delivery rates (and that it's not pissing oil all I've the floor) then it's good to go. Happy to be educated though!

The actual delivery rate is not an easy check to perform. The cam wear limit is the important one and this controls oil delivery. I am seeing a few pumps with scored bore in the main casting, this reduces oil flow, Yamaha later modified the cam shaft to prevent this happening and I do the mod on all the pumps that come here. Also, plenty of worn out springs and check valves that are passing.
