hi all,just getting frame ready for painting,have headraces out can i leave the headrace cups in or no ,if not what is easiest way of getting them out,thanks

Just mask them off with suitable tape.

If its going for blasting first, better remove them as they could be damaged by the blast material. I took some barrels and cyl heads to a local blaster and asked if they could be carefull and not blast any machined surface and their reply was they could not be arsed and just blast everything! So I went the chemical strip route!

If they are ok, then mask off, if replacing them then remove prior to coating, less chance of damaging newly coated frame - just need to tap new cups in !.

they are fairly new only in about 6 mths,prob just mask off ,getting frame sandblasted and then getting two pack paint done instead of powdercoating,well thats the plan anyway unless someone can tell me its a bad idea

When i had my lc2 pdw coated the guys said he would protect the bearing cups but he didnt (wa..ker). Anyway i very gently scraped of the pwd coating with a blunt blade and it was fine. The bearing cups are pretty hard stuff

Very difficult to mask areas for blasting as it destroys everything. I have not left head bearings in as was always changing them anyway but have left swing arm bushes in.
I always mask my own frames as it guarantees it is done how you want it. I usually blank all the threads with old bolts and use threaded rod and discs cut from sheet metal to mask the head bearing area and any other areas that need it.
Usually means you get a better price on blast/powder as you have saved them some hassle.
