I have re-bored to 0.25 oversize and had the head skimmed (including the 'squish' pots due to detonation damage). The bike started first kick when put back together and immediately over revved, so naturally turned it straight off. Stripped and checked the Carbs, jetting, floats etc and all are good. Then gone through a phase where it would start when it wanted to instead of first kick over, each time over revving. Have just read through an old post on the site where someone had a very similar problem. There was mention on the old post about placing extra gaskets at the base of the barrels to compensate for the head being skimmed. Can anyone advice ?

squish is way big so skimming should be ok. it would not make it rev its nuts off.
more likely an air leak or slides not closing for some reason. are slides the right way round?

Another favorite is forgetting the balance pipe between the two carbs

you haven't changed the throttle cable per chance have you?, if so, if its a Yambits one be sure to check it against the old one, just had one yesterday where it was way too short, so if you balanced the carbs up to the pips on the slides it revved its nuts off, also, check that the cable shrouds that go to the carb have not popped out of the junction box and sitting proud, so lifting the slides, easiest check is to see how much travel you have on the throttle grip, if it feels less than normal then then check the cables going into the junction box, its an easy thing to happen and pattern cables are a right pain for doing it

Thanks guys. The slides are good and balance pipes in place. I did get the cable from Yambits, I'll give that a check against the old one. Not noticed before but there is literally no travel on the grip and it did appear to be a tight fit with little room for manoeuvre.

Throw the Yambits cable in the bin NOW they're dangerous, even if you can get it work ok it's just as likely to stick in the fully open position when your riding the bike, I know from experience If you cant find a genuine one Norbo sells good patten ones failing that if you have an old OEM one & send it to Venhill they will make you a new one
