yes, particularly since tanks are getting flaky or have dust in them after paint jobs. Even with a fuel filter in I get fine dust in the float bowls.

As above yes but still find a fine dust in float bowels when cleaning.

Which ones do people recommend and do fit one in each fuel line or can you get filters with two outlets?

I use one of the disposable ones from the RD LC shop listed under the accessories and tools section on my LC2. I just use one fitted between the fuel tap and T piece. Whenever I strip the carbs they always seem clean with no sediment in the float bowls. Just need to make sure you fit them with the arrow on the filter the way of the fuel flow.

if you use a decent tankliner that copes with ethanol you will never need one , agree with headcotes on small ones ,caused fuel starvation on one of my bikes

The little ones are fine, they would only restrict flow if they're full of cr*p which you could see if/when they need changing because they are clear plastic.
If you put one of those in-line, then disconnect the line from the carb and open the fuel tap, your tank will empty just as quick as if it wasn't there, so it won't cause any restriction supplying the carbs when running.
I've got them fitted to several bikes here including the tuned YPVS engine and never had a problem.
