Does anyone on here have any experience with the carbs fitted to a R1-Z YPVS 250 ??. I'm told they are the same as a TDR250 but I'm not sure about that ?. Basically I'm looking at buying one and the seller says there's a problem with cold starting (it's a pain in the a*se basically) Now I know on carbs like fitted to the 350LC that have a choke pickup on just one carb, you must get have float bowls on the correct carbs, as only one has the pickup hole drilled through. Well on this bike the owner says each carb has a choke circuit of its own and when he took the float bowls off to have a look, he noticed that neither float bowl had a hole through the pickup point (just blanked off) for the choke. He decided drilled them both with a 1mm drill but this has made no difference. Now either the bike has the wrong float bowls fitted or the choke circuit doesn't work by picking up through the float bowls in this way. I have not seen the carbs stripped myself, so not sure if the bodies have a pickup tube going into the bowl pickup tubes like on the RD350LC. Anyone know how the choke works on these and can advise what the problem might be ??. Moochas

can't really help, but the R1-Z carbs have a heater circuit plumbed in to them from the cylinder head. I did totally strip and clean mine, but don't know any differenced, the chokes are cabled onto each carb with a small plunger just the same as TDR ones. Could have a look and take some pics if you are really stuck, have you bought the bike?? R1-Z or TDR??

Hi and cheers for the reply,
It's an R1-Z 250 and haven't bought it yet, though I may if it didn't have this problem or I was fairly sure I knew what the problem is and could fix it.
Do you know what the heater circuit does if the chokes are manually operated by cables ?.

No sorry, but I'm not refitting the pipes back on mine, assume it's possibly carb freezing?? never see the reason myself, Fredjee might know a few more details??

I junked my standard R1Z carbs on both the R1Zs I've had, my current bike has TZR 2MA carbs but my previous I fitted TDR250 just to keep all the pipe work standard, the R1Z are smaller internal bore compared to TZR/TDR . My bike felt to have more power through out the power range but wouldn't rev as hard as standard carbs , the R1Z would red line in every gear to 180kph but with TZR it died at the red line, probably just needed setting up.

That's good to know,
Do the 2MA carbs fit straight in ?, i.e. fit the inlet and airbox rubbers, throttle cables and choke mechanism ?. Or do you have to change some of that ?.
