Hi, I have an old 4L0 cylinder head, it has quite bad detonation marks on one combustion chamber. Does anyone repair these heads? or are they just scrap now? I am assuming they must have to be welded up and re machined? If you have a damaged 4L1 head, with the similar detonation marks, could it be re profiled to a 4L0 head? steven.

yes so long as the damage is not too deep, skim the head and recut the chamber, I have a nifty little tool that I made that recuts the apron of the chamber (slanting bit), then its just a case of skimming it to the required level, not forgetting to check that the head bolts still clamp the head correctly, if not, use thicker washers

Speak to Bob Farnham, he's repaired some horrendous damage to some of my heads!
Basically as headcoates said, it's a skim to get it straight then the combustion chambers cut back and cc'd to get the bowl volume correct. Of course this gives you the option to improve the squish and combustion chamber shape while you're at it :-)

You could speak to Fahron . He takes his time but does a top job for a fair price .
