Removed my brake pads and found a metal shim on the back of the pads, did not find it under all pads but only on half of those What is the purpose of those shims? Do I have to refit those and get some more for the rest of the pads? Kostas

Shims normally are provided to suppress brake noise/squeal, they should be fitted on all the front pads and make sure you fit them the correct way round. Check the manual for correct orientation. They Don't necessarily have to be fitted though. I.e they wont affect brake performance if not fitted.

Will check the Haynes book, It just did not make sense having a shim that covers only half the brake pad...

The shims do only cover half a pad, but should be fitted to all the front pads, note they are directional, from memory they are all fwd, i'm offshore at the moment so can't check.
