Hi, I'm Rob, and I've finally made the effort to register on here! I'm a member on most 2 stroke forums, but I'm a bit of a low poster, just shy I guess I own an RD500LC, which has been pretty much reliable in the 9 years I've owned it too (touches wood!) Now looking for a 4LO and a 31k....

Thanks everyone for the welcome so far RD is unrestored/unpainted. Ridden often in nice weather. Tidy condition, but I think the pic makes it look better than it really is. It was used in MCN in 2011, celebrating 25 years since Silverstone was used for GP's, with McElnea, Mackenzie and Haslam in the write up, along with RG500 and NS400 too as comparisons to their racebikes.

Hi Rob welcome to the Mad house . Thats a fine looking bike. I love the look of the 500's . you dont have to be a big poster so long as you enjoy posting what you do post.
I have an RZV500 my self but i fined it quight sow they should have made them with the same power as your RD500

Cheers Norbo! As I understand it, if you modify or change the exhaust, and change the jetting to suit, you shouldn't be far away from a UK RD. But I may be wrong......

I have an RZV500 my self but i fined it quight sow they should have made them with the same power as your RD500 I de-restricted my RZV500 and it has the same performance as a stock RD500LC. Just removed the restrictors in the exhaust and re-jet as per RD500 spec. I put it on a dyno and got 72bhp at the rear wheel, which is pretty much what the mags got back in 84. Didn't you buy Paul's RZV, I thought I saw a dyno print out for his and it was about 59? That would account for the performance difference. Steve

Why don't you get it de-restricted, assuming that it is restricted. The restrictors in the exhausts are just held in by a few spot welds and the carbs cost about £24 each to replace the jets, nozzles, needles etc (22% gain in power). It won't turn into rocket, but given the brakes, suspension etc, its feels fast enough! Mine will sit at about 90 - 100mph all day without much trouble . Steve

Turns out my 31k is more powerful than a 500 Pity I could have bought a 500 for what it cost to build Steve

Maybe you get more bhp, but I get to hear those wonderful 4 exhausts when on the power, and I can pretend to be King Kenny for a while ;D
