hi guys , I'm after a good reasonably priced ultrasound cleaner. i will be doing all the normal stuff but carbs essentially. I have no idea what brand is good , what size or capacity i need. what do you guys have or have used that you could recommend that would be a good size in relation to an elsi obviously the small bits, carbs and other bits that would be hard to clean internally. Thanks
Dave

The Aldi one was £20 and if you cut the bottom of a milk carton (2L) you can fit a whole carb in

Bucket with an orbital sander strapped to it 😄 never tried it but someone suggested it some time back. I bought an ultrasonic cleaner from Maplins works ok not brilliant though even with the correct cleaner. Jess

I have a 2 litre Jones 8020 or something like that i got it from maplins b stock £39 posted you can fit two carbs in it and it seems to work ok on brake calipers and stuff too. I normally leave stuff in at least 30 minutes though and I would clean the worst of the crap off by hand first if im honest or you have to change the fluid or water about ten times. Just dont expect miracles in 10 minutes

Most people I know use Cilit Bang as the fluid for the sonic cleaner

I used proper carb cleaning solution for ultrasonic cleaners but I have found that a mixture of vinegar, washing up liquid & hot water works just as well & it's cheap

I heard tomato ketchup works a treat as a pre cleaner ,then into the ultrasonic , not tried it but seen it mentioned a few times And my mate cole used it on his xs750 resto ,swears by it , probably the vinegar in it Sounds a bit messy to me

I've just bought a 6L one, not cheap, but just testing it out now with various solutions, cleaners etc
so far, water on its own is pretty pants !
Washing up liquid is ok, but needs something extra, I think vinegar as mentioned above is probably a good addition
Just trying gunk and water solution at the moment, so will see how it goes......

Wouldn't bother with Gunk & water as water is used to break the Gunk down & wash it away. I tried neat gunk in mine, not very impressed with results, as I said vinegar & washing up liquid works well

yep, not bad results with the washing up liquid and vinegar, biggest headache is knowing what proportion of each is required, I kept mucking about trying to find a good mix
anyway, results are good all the same, I am going to try some of the proper cleaner stuff for ultrasonic cleaners for carbs etc and will compare results
Only thing I found is the finish is dull using the washing up liquid etc,, but spraying it all woth WD40 afterwards brings it up a treat !

Just a little warning about vinegar, it's not the best liquid to use on aluminum/magnesium alloys as it will start eating the metal up!
Yamaha doesn't use that kind of alloys afaIk though so it should be fine, but it's worth knowing.

Vinegar is an acid, you want something alkaline...a heavy duty floor or surface cleaner (NOT bleach!!!) will be fine, if it doesnt state its an acid or alkali on the bottle, you can check from the manufacturers site.
Generally dont dose anything above 30mls per litre of water, its a waste and you can make the item your cleaning come out worse.
Washing up liquid is a neutral detergent and wont do next to zip, waste of money.
Dont mix ANY chemicals up, you can seriously fook yourself up...I had 3 fatalities in 2010 from people doing just this....especially bleach and stuff like oven/drain cleaner, which people sometimes "have a go with"
I would stomach the extra cost and buy the purpose built cleaner, it should work best and be safe for you and what your cleaning.
