no its not bent, the bike is perfect as new condition,, its just the way they have had to do the forks with them being made of alloy,,,, the mk3 chopps are sh1t, and its one of the bikes I got rid of,, its the name that does it, when you see the name you have to have one, then you realise how crap they are and get rid, which is what I did,,, twice I buy and sell lots of parts for these old school bikes and I just love ebay, so if there is money to be made a will buy and then sell which is what a done with both the mk3 chopps

Never had a chopper but the Grifter's are taking me back closely followed by the burner
Did the earlier Grifters have straight forks?
Seem to remember the early ones with heavier forks that if you abused it would bend the stem and stretch the frame at the headstock.
Later ones having the thinner curved forks and a reinforced ring on the lower frame race. Might be talking bollocks, a ot of substance abuse in the following years.
They took some abuse, couldn't afford a BMX at first so think I used the early forks with the later frame with alloy rimmed wheels before moving on to the Burners. Frames would crack at the frame brace if you abused them but great fun.

not a bad memory m8,, your right about the supporting ring to strengthen the frame, this came into effect on the mk2 model, even though there are a few oddities of ringless mk2s around,,, just a thing of raleigh using up old frames,,, the forks have always been the same shape, and the difference being early forks had a pressed dropout (where the spindle sits and nuts tighten to) where later bikes had a slotted piece to give it more strenth,, straght forks were usualy added from early bmx as the grifter forks would bend after too many wheelys.......

Good, that took me back a few years!
Beautiful collection.
Back in the day, I had a 1977 Chopper, special edition with mag wheels and drum brakes, without my knowledge, my Mum made my dad throw it away a few years ago....we still rip her over that at least once a month..

I remember having one of them back in the day Paul, completely forgot there was such a thing from my childhood.
Do they still manufacture them?

I had a blue Grifter when they only came out in Red or Blue so I assume it was an early one and I too snapped the headstock tube jumping it and wheelying it.
Was still under warranty so parents took it back to the shop who told them I have obviously crashed it into a wall (I hadn't) and wouldn't fix it.

Jesus these take me back!
A grifter without a split seat, now that's gotta be rare.
I had an orange chipper and a black grifter with some of the others having a purple chopper and a black bommer.
Looks like your on my doorstep fella as Penshaw is pedalling distance from here!
Great stuff.
