I recently bought two stroke oil from a dealer, not able to tell you what make it was (all I remember was 7-10 oil on the container) and have since thrown the container away and it cost me £13.70 for a litre. In Tesco today and they're selling their own brand of oil for £5.40 a litre with the following spec on the back of container:
API TC; JASO FC; I also noticed that Castrol had Two stroke oil for £5.70 a litre with the following specs: API TC; JASO FC; ISO L-EGC Can anyone advise me if either of these would suit my LC?
Thank you my new knowledgeable friends,
Kaz

Hi, are you sure the Tesco one was FC 'cos I have seen that stuff and it was FB last time I looked, unless they have changed their supplier. All the oil specs from FB~FD have the same lubrication requirements, that does not mean they are the same, its just that there is only one test for lubrication requirements. The test for FD spec. oils runs for much longer. Part syn. and fully syn. oils will lube better under leaner (and certain other) conditions but the FB oils meet (as opposed to vastly exceed) the test requirements. FC oils are much cleaner burn than FB oils and FD oils are cleaner again than FC oils, so its all to do with cleanleness and deposit control. I now use a semi synthetic oil to FD standard, (my spark plugs don't get cleaned all season)
Any 2T oil rated to FC standard is well upto the job for the LC and those JASO standards also dictate min and max viscocities that make them suitable for pump use.
Also the 710 oil is made by Motul and is one of the finest 2T oils available, it is JASO FD spec. incase you were interested, the ISO specs. are European standards and EGD is a slightly higher rating that the Japanese FD standard. HTH.

Yes.
Jaso FD & ISO-L-EGD
are the latest specifications for 2t oil for road going motorcycles.
These oils are clean burning and don't foul plugs or block silencers if used with the oil metering pump.
As arrow says Motul 710 is about as good as it gets, but for a non tuned LC other 2t oils of this specification semi or full synthetic, are of a far superior quality to any oil available when the bikes were new
