Took my RD250LC out this afternoon and this happened on the motorway. What and why did this happen ? 3000 miles since re-build this was an after market gasket that came in a kit. Noticed drop in power and thought I had to switch to reserve. Van driver came along side and alerted me to an issue. Pulled over and left leg covered in antifreeze. He saw steam coming from left hand pipe. I was so lucky as this fellow biker gave me and bike a lift home. He felt bad as he was admiring it when it all went wrong ! I am going to buy a gen yam one from Norbs tomorrow but is that all it is ?

what size piston are you running i was thinking if it was like 1.75 or 2mm is may have been to close to the side and that’s what made this happen .

get a metal gasket, the one thats made up out of three layers of steel and using a dremel make the gasket big enough to fit the piston through. thats what gerry pell told me to do anyway.

Get a genuine Yam one. Norbo sells them at around £35. I didn't know this and bought one from Granby Motors for £60!!!! Ouch!! Not had a single problem with leaks or blowing and , apparently, you can re-use them.
