OK took bike out for its first spin today started from cold second kick.. but when I got about 1 1/2 mile and she cut out waited a few minutes and she started again. This kept happening over the course of a three mile trip it cut out 7 times!!! when i was closer to home the oil light came on.. Is the mix wrong? are the plugs knackered? must be petrol but really don't know. I understand how things work but don't claim to be an expert on 2 strokes.. Any advice would be greatly received..

It could be lots of thing s. The coild could be braking down and as they get hot they stop working. then they cool down and she starts again untill they get hot again . You can cheque forthis by taking a spark plug spanner out with you and when it cuts out wip a plug out as fast as you can and see if it spars when you kick it over .
Could be a carb blockage could be crappy plugs could be water gtting in the head look at the plugs . look at the water in the rad smell it is t clean or does it have a smell . if its the head the bike will run hot as well . could be a bad earth. could be the supresser caps being loos on the plugs. could be the pistons sezing up a little if your not getting anough oil threw " I dont know how it stops running does it cut out or rapedley slow down"

Thanks Norbo. When it cut out it felt like it was running out of petrol or similar to my petrol hedge cutters when I put to much two stroke in (runs flat)
I have changed the plugs and adjusted the 2stroke cable from the throttle to the correct setting it was about 3-4mm long don't know if this small amount makes any difference. I also checked that the petrol was coming out of the tank OK and it was fine as long as its on reserve. No petrol comes out when switched to "ON" but I knew this (not sure why?) checked the 2stroke pump spacing between the plate and boss and it seems fine..
After all that I tool it out for a shot spin of around four miles (with someone following behind in a car!!) Ye Ha it didn't stop once.. I think I will keep building up the distance before I go for a long run. So fingers crossed ;D
How do I know its all running its best.. Will it ever or is this something that I will be always tinkering with?

So put a wee bet on the Grand National and got piped at the post. Oh might be my lucky day so I will go and do the lottery and take the RD for a spin... Got 1 1/2mile from the house and she stopped.. not so lucky!! man average walking speed 4.5mph man pushing RD250LC up a hill for 1.5miles = 1hour!!! I one of the plugs out and kicked it over and it had a bright blue spark. I assume that's OK. So injected petrol into the plug hole but still didn't start. Think I will pull the carbs of tomorrow morning and give them a clean.

Drain the tank using some spare hose into a petrol can. The flow should be uninterupted with the fuel cap on. If it stops, take off the cap and see what happens.

Drain the tank using some spare hose into a petrol can. The flow should be uninterrupted with the fuel cap on. If it stops, take off the cap and see what happens. i will give that a go also. Really frustrating as when i went to lock the garage up i give it a kick and what do you know it started. i will need to investigate...

So ended up bringing my bike to an expert found a guy used to work on rds for a living and within seconds he discovered that the sliders the wrong way around or in the wrong carbs and the flue to oil mix wrong. My wee baby now running sweet. Happy days.
