Refurbed my 350R a couple of years ago. All I did to the engine was powder coat the barrels, head and side casing. Fitted new rings and a water pump bearing and seal. Since then it gets hot the gauge goes right up, drops while moving but goes up again in traffic. Have tried 3 cylinder head gaskets 2 genuine, a mates radiator a new stat and sender and had the head skimmed. I`m now thinking of replacing the water pump bearing and seal, have checked it`s turning when running and tried to stop or slow it to see if it`s driving. Starting to hate this bike which is a shame cause it looks and rides well but it never gets out cause it does my head in. Any help would be greatly taken onboard.

Hi 4ce, not got a overheating problem like you, just blowing out the expansion tank when riding hard, so current on with fitting a new head gasket coated in blue sealant. Have you tried a known OK radiator cap?, it's the only other thing i can think off that could have a bearing on your problem. Best off luck m8.

Ign Timings, jettings (carb condition) as well as faulty Headgaskets , water pumps, thermostats and air pockets in the cooling system, ALL can cause overheat. Lotsa things to check over carefully. Don't just fixate on one :-)

Are you sure it is getting that hot? I had a similar prob, turned out to be a battery voltage issue, the more the voltage went up the hotter it pretended to run. Fixed the r/r and normal service was resumed.
A work around was to leave the lights on all the time, so all that spare electrickery has somewhere to go.

It gets hot all right, starts to boil. Last time out it blew the top off the expansion bottle and covered me with water. Had the head skimmed since then, started it and the gauge just keeps going up. So it`s sat in the back of the shed since last spring.

So it`s sat in the back of the shed since last spring. If it is blowing out the expansion bottle then sound like the gasket is leaking. Have you tried loosening the base bolts then torquing the head and re tightening the base bolts. Had one years ago that would not seal untill done this way. Also have you checked the top of the barrels are flat and both are exactly the same height. Steve
