started building engine tonight and it would seem i have lost the inputshaft retaining plate and screws, i build gearboxes for a living and everything was stripped carefully and put into plastic tubs so i dont see how i could of lost all three bits my question is does it need it? because i dont think it was there as i dont even remember removing it. looking at it from a gearbox builders point of view it looks like yamaha might have over engineered it slightly as the bearing is held in the case with a circlip and the nut pulls the shaft through on the clutch hub to the correct place. question is, is it common for them to be missed off or am i making one tommorow ;D

i was wondering the same thing, unlike your goodself i do lose things, im buggered if i can find mine, at least i have cleaned up my bike area, i ordered one last night from the states but will take a few weeks to get here, i ordered it thinking murphys law will kick in and i will find the original, knowing my luck the engine will disintergrate if i dont fit one.

Is this the retaining plate that holds top and bottom cases together?
If so when I pulled my motor apart I never had a clutch holding tool so could not get to it, just cut/snapped it and never replaced it. Asked at that time before and it did turn out that allot of people never re'used them esp people who raced.
