Hi all, I'm getting to the finer points of the hybrid build now, with most of the big bits in place. I have some questions now though, having never built a Hybrid before. First off, I was under the impression that the brass bypass on the rear of the powervalve cylinder head could just be blanked off as the Lc rad has no provision for the F2's bypass hose. I then read on a thread that it needs to be plumbed in to the Lc's overflow pipe running from the top of the rad to the overflow tank. Any thoughts or experience on this fellas ? The bike is an Lc with an F2 valve engine, carbs and electrics, Lc rad. The other question regards the carbs which are F2 powerjets. The Lc tap has no provision for the vacuum pipe going to the carbs, so what do you do with the pipe coming from the vac take off on the carbs ? Cheers for any ideas. Regards Dusty

Not sure about the first question but you can just blank off the vac pipe

If you are going to blank the bypass hose off, you'll need to engineer a way for the expanding water to leave the engine, before the 'stat opens.
Easiest way is to drill a small hole in the 'stat body.
I've done this & it works fine.

Hi, I was under the impression that the bypass could be blanked off, but this doesn't seem to be the case now. One idea I did have is could I use the "T" piece that is usually used with the F2 carb pipes and have a pipe coming from the bypass, into the T , which then runs into the overflow pipe from the rad to the overflow tank ? Don't really want to disturb the thermostat if I can help it.
Cheers
Dusty

Hi dusty350, just going through this myself. Have done just over 500 miles with the cylinder head outlet just blanked off - the bike never overheated, but when ridden hard i was getting water coming out off the expansion tank cap. I've just had the radiator modified so i can run a pipe from the cylinder head outlet to the radiator, just below the expansion tank inlet pipe. This is the best solution on a LC as on the YPVS, the pipe is plumbed into the radiator filler neck just below the expansion pipe. I wouldn't plumb it into the expansion circuit as that basically a different circuit, rad cap opens at a certain pressure to vent off the expanded water into the expansion tank. When the bike cools down the water runs back into the radiator. Saying that, gave the bike a quick run on Friday with the new modified radiator on, same thing, water out the expansion bottle. I think it has to be a faulty radiator cap, got a spare so going to fit it and try. If you need any photos just ask. Paulo

Hi Paulo, If you can post some pics, that would be really handy. I should have asked this question before I sprayed and plumbed in the rad . I know there are a few Hybrid owners out there, is this how it's generally done or do most opt for drilling the thermostat ? Dusty

Reading the threads, i would say it's 50 / 50, some drill the thermostat and some modify the radiator. Hope this helps .

Hi Paulo, Great pic, thanks for that. I have recently spayed my new rad so I may go the thermostat drilling route, plus it wont cost me anything. As I understand it, I need to drill a 3mm hole in the disc part of the thermostat, and hopefully that will do it. Thanks again for your input Regards Dusty
